Guyana's prized XM Royal 10-year-old and XM VXO Seven-Year-old rums made an unprecedented clean sweep at the inaugural Spirit Business Rum Masters Awards 2009 in the United Kingdom recently, even as plans are moving apace by local producers Banks DIH Ltd. to make a greater impact on the Caribbean, European and USA markets.
XM VXO Rum secured a Master Award in the Gold Under 7 Years category, while XM Royal 10 Year Old was awarded a Master in the Gold 8-12 years Old class, the highest accolade awarded at the prestigious competition.
The Banks DIH 2009 Annual Report has won a Caribbean Advertising Federation Gold ADDY Award, and will now go on to be judged in the Final American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards Competition in the USA.
Banks DIH Ltd. presented Bursaries to twenty children of employees and shareholders who were successful at the 2010 National Grade Six Assessment during a presentation ceremony on Saturday at Thirst Park.
Andrew Carto, Human Resources Director who delivered the feature address called on the children to work hard in their pursuit of excellence.
He said the bursary award is an annual feature within the company for more than three decades that offers opportunities for the recipients.
Banks DIH Ltd. honoured 30 of its employees who attained 20 years of service with the company at its Annual 20 Year Club Lunch recently.
Mr. Andrew Carto, Human Resources Director said that it was the largest group of employees inducted into the Club since the programme was launched several years ago.
He added that the Club now has an incredible 152 members, all currently employed with the company and it may be the highest number for any company locally.

Avinash Persaud and Christine Sukhram retained the men’s and ladies crowns at the R1 Vodka sponsored two-day Guyana Open Golf championships played at Lusignan golf Club.
Persaud playing off a 2 handicap recorded an overall gross 151 after shooting 73 on the first day and 78 on the day two.
Guyana’s two-man Judo team won four medals at the Barbados Independence International Judo tournament held on December 3-4 in Bridgetown.
Teenager Raul Lall , a member of the House of Water Judo Club won a gold medal in the individual Under 17 category and a bronze medal in the senior team competition, while Bruce Fraser, a member of the Rising Sun Dojo won two bronze medals in the senior under 90 kg division.

Guyana's XM Royal Gold 10-year-old Rum has received top rating at an international tasting event in London.
XM Royal Gold 10 Year Old produced, bottled and exported by Banks DIH Ltd. registered the highest score as bartenders and industry experts evaluated 12 rums from Central and South America at a blind tasting event held at London rum emporium Cotton's recently.
Each spirit was evaluated on appearance, aroma, flavour and finish, with marks out of 100 awarded for balance and complexity and XM Royal Gold top scored with 81 points.
