The East Coast Demerara leg of the Premium Cues countrywide Pools competition will take place on Sunday at Jameel’s Sports Bar at Vryheid’s Lust starting at 13:00 hours.

The playoff will attract some of the top pools players on the East Coast competing for a top prize of $50,000 with the runner-up securing $30,000 while the third place finisher will take home $15,000.

The tournament entitled “Premium Cues Showdown” is sponsored by Banks DIH Limited under the Premium Beer brand.

Guyana suffered mixed fortunes on the opening night of the Guinness Caribbean Street Challenge with a win and a defeat in their Zone “A” playoffs at the championship being played in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Guyana went down to Trinidad and Tobago 1-0 in their opening match but rebounded to score a 2-0 win over Antigua/Barbuda.

Trinidad and Tobago are the 2013 Guinness Caribbean Street Football champions as last year’s runner-up Guyana failed to advance to the semi-finals in this year’s regional tournament held over the weekend in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Trinidadians defeated Dominica 2-0 in a penalty shootout in the final after the game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

The Guyana side competing in Zone “A” in the preliminary competition scored only one win beating Antigua/Barbuda 2-0. They lost to eventual winners Trinidad and Tobago 1-0 and bowed out to St. Lucia in a penalty shootout 2-1 in the battle for a semi-final place. Daniel Favorite scored Guyana’s only goal in the penalty shootout.

Forty players to contest GT leg of Premium Pool Tourney

At least forty players are listed to contest the Georgetown leg of the “Premium Cues Showdown” Pools tournament on Sunday at Buddy’s Pool Hall on Sheriff Street.

Following three weeks of warm up tournaments, competition is expected to intensify as Georgetown players now get a chance to showcase their talent with the aim of reaching the grand finals scheduled for July 28th at Stabroek Sports Bar, above Idiho Restaurant on Brickdam.

The Bar was officially opened on October 12th, 2012 by Mr. Clifford Reis, Chairman and Managing Director of Banks DIH Limited.

Over sixty children are attending a one-month Vacation Sports and Academic Camp at Banks DIH Sports Complex at Thirst Park geared at offering life skills to the participants.

Local Beverage giants Banks DIH Ltd. renewed sponsorship with ace motor racing driver Andrew King ahead on Sunday’s Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing championships at the South Dakota Circuit at Timehri.

King and Group 2 driver Danny Persaud will be racing under the Banks Beer banner, the company’s International Gold Medal winning beer.

National and Under-20 squads were presented with Powerade

Beverage giants Banks DIH continued its support for the President’s Cup football showdown between Guyana’s Golden Jaguars and Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors by presenting energy drinks to the national footballers.

Players and officials of both National and Under-20 squads were presented with Powerade, a beverage that is ideal for athletes, Communications Manager Troy Peters disclosed.
