Twenty eight employees were lauded for their valuable service and dedication by Banks DIH Limited during a Long Service Award Luncheon held in their honour at Thirst Park.

Mr. Andrew Carto, Human Resources Director who delivered the feature address at the Ceremony for the employees who attained 20 years of service, said Banks DIH Limited is indebted to them for their contribution to the Company.

Banks DIH Limited presented nine complete sets of electric lamps to the Mackenzie Sports Club to enhance the lighting at the sports facility in the mining town.

The presentation took place on May 1st at the MSC pavilion and was attended by Regional Ten Chairman Sharma Solomon, Banks DIH Limited officials and executives of the MSC and the Upper Demerara Football Association.

A youthful Guyana Team will be looking to bring home glory at the third annual Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge which opens Friday at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Trinidad and Tobago.

The team which features seven players, a competitor for the Skills Challenge and two officials will depart Thursday for the twin island republic.

The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will give more than one million people across the world the chance to experience the FIFA World Trophy™ in their own communities. Guyana included, the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy will arrive in Georgetown on October 30, 2013.

This will be the largest and longest global tour of the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy by Coca-Cola. Visiting more countries than ever during its nine-month journey, a total of 89 countries, with events in 39 countries across the region that is home to the host nation, Brazil. The tour will also be visiting 50 new countries that have never had the opportunity to host the trophy before.

The three winners of the “Coca-Cola Win Your Trip to Brazil Promotion” and their guests have left Guyana for neighbouring Brazil to witness the FIFA World Cup match between Ecuador and France on Wednesday in Rio de Janiero.

Jaimattie Ramlakhan, Lawrence Brisport and Doodmattie Prashad were declared winners following the Promotion drawing on June 6th at Demico House Retail Liquor Store on Brickdam.

Team Guyana came in for high praise for finishing second in the Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge played at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Trinidad and Tobago over the weekend.

The Guyanese were edged out 2-1 by hosts Trinidad and Tobago in the finals Saturday night in a pulsating encounter.

Approximately sixty students from various secondary, technical and tertiary institutions in regions three, four and seven are attending a six-week Work Study Attachment Programme at Banks DIH Limited.

The programme which started in June and runs until the end of August on a rotation basis are attended by students of the University of Guyana, Government Technical Institute (GTI), Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) Carnegie School of Home Economics, Annandale Secondary, Queen’s College, St. Stanislaus College, Stewartville Secondary, Patentia Secondary of West Demerara Region 3, St. Rose’s High, St. Joseph’s High, Camille Institute of Business and Three Mile Secondary of Bartica in Region Seven.

Guyana and West Indies youth cricketer Shimron Hetmyer is the newest sports personality to join the Banks DIH Limited Sports Brand Ambassador Programme.

Hetmyer will be the Brand Ambassador for Aqua Mist Water, pure artesian water.

Promising female cricketer Lashuna Toussaint has joined Banks DIH Limited Sports Brand Ambassador programme following an induction ceremony at Thirst Park on Thursday.

The twenty-year-old wicketkeeper/batter has represented Demerara at the under-19 and senior levels and was a standby on the National Senior Team last year.
Her mission is to represent Guyana and the West Indies at the senior level. She has hit top score of 81 runs during trials last year and is looking forward to being called up for national duties this year.
