Guyana To Host Inaugural Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge

The inaugural Guinness Street Football Challenge will take place in Guyana from June 21st -23rd at the National Park arena with six regional teams expected to compete for a top prize of $4,000 (US) and a specialized artificial football pitch in country of the winning team.

Soft Drink Plant, Stores share honours at Banks DIH cricket and football

Soft Drink Plant emerged cricket winners while Stores secured the football crown at the Annual Banks DIH Inter-Department Games following the finals of the two competitions recently at Thirst Park ground.

Soft Drink Plant defeated arch-rivals Brewery by 63 runs in the cricket final.

Batting first, Soft Drink Plant made a commanding 171-5 in their allotted 12 overs with Siefon Gordon top scoring with 70 and Jermaine Martin supporting well with 33.

Banks Malta Involved In Junior Chess Development

Local beverage giant Banks DIH will sponsor two events organized by the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) as the Federation moves to attract new players to the sport.

President of the GCF Shiv Nandalall said Federation will run off an “Introduction to Chess” Workshop on Saturday at the Carifesta Sports Complex and the following day organize a One-Day Rapid Chess tournament for players in West Demerara. Both events will be sponsored by Banks DIH under the Banks Malta brand.

Eagles Win Guinness Football Tourney

Eagles squeezed past Retrievers Unknowns 3-2 to lift the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Futsal football tournament in front of a mammoth crowd at the Mackenzie market square on May 7th to bring the curtains down on the Linden leg of the series sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd.

In a closely fought encounter, the youthful Eagles sent their supporters into wild celebrations when Deon Charter scored their first goal in the 5th minute and they held on to the lead throughout the first half.

Banks DIH Sponsorship In Barbados Independence International Judo Tournament

Guyana’s two-man Judo team won four medals at the Barbados Independence International Judo tournament held on December 3-4 in Bridgetown.

Teenager Raul Lall , a member of the House of Water Judo Club won a gold medal in the individual Under 17 category and a bronze medal in the senior team competition, while Bruce Fraser, a member of the Rising Sun Dojo won two bronze medals in the senior under 90 kg division.
