The inaugural Guinness Caribbean Street Football challenge opened Thursday evening at the National Park tarmac.

Five regional teams, Antigua/Barbuda, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and host Guyana are competing in the five-a-side tournament.

The feature address was delivered by Mr. Alfred King, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport who represented Sports Minister Dr. Frank Anthony.

Other speakers included President of the Guyana Football Federation Mr. Franklyn Wilson, Mr. Carlton Joao, Sales and Marketing Executive of Banks DIH Limited and Mr. Gareth Geddes, Guinness Regional Manager.

Trinidad and Tobago’s football captain Mr. Kenwayne Jones who plays for English Premier League Club Stoke City is the Guinness Street Football Challenge Ambassador.

Mr. Jones arrived in Guyana Thursday evening for the tournament.

The winning team will secure a first prize of US$4000 and a complete Futsal hard court in their community.

The runner up will take home US$2,000, while US$1,500 and US$1,000 will be awarded to the third and fourth placed teams.
