Banks DIH Ltd. made a presentation of $600,000 to the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central to assist with the operational cost for its mobile dental health care bus which services schools on the lower East Coast, East Bank West Coast and West Bank Demerara.

Mr. Clifford Reis, Chairman of Banks DIH Ltd. in presenting the cheque to President of the Club Ms.Gail Robinson said that his company was extremely pleased to support the work of the Rotary Club.

Reis commended the Rotarians for providing free dental health care to school aged children for the past 12 years.

“I commend your effort and look forward to your continued humanitarian service to the Guyanese community,” he added.

Ms.Robinson said that the donation will be used towards the Mobile Dental Unit’s operational expenses.

According to Ms. Robinson, the programme has served over 100,000 school children it started in 1998.

“Among the services provided by the mobile unit are fillings, restoration and root canals and prophylaxis. It is staffed with dental personnel from the Dr. Cheddie Jagan Dental School and works in conjunction with the national programme for dental health care in schools,” she added.

The Rotary Dental Unit is the flagship project of the Guyana initiative, an association formed between the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central and the Rotary Club of South Richmond in the United States.

Also present at the handing over ceremony were Mr. Andrew Carto, Human Resources Director, Banks DIH Ltd., Rotarians, Past District Governor Mr. Dunstan Barrow, Mr. Mike Davis (Past President) and Mr. Orville Davis (Secretary).
