The world’s number one stout will be spreading the philanthropic legacy of its founder Sir Arthur Guinness by identifying and rewarding five community heroes across the Caribbean.

The five community heroes will receive cash from the Arthur Guinness Fund which will go towards supporting their social project and bettering their communities.

The Arthur Guinness Fund was established in 2009 as part of the Arthur Guinness Day celebrations to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the lease for the GUINNESS® brewery at St James’s Gate in Dublin, Ireland. Since its inception more than US$9 million has been committed to various social projects around the world.

The Arthur Guinness Fund was first introduced to the Caribbean last year in Jamaica where Community Heroes received funding to support their social projects aimed at improving their community and the livelihood of its residents.

“The Arthur GUINNESS Fund has been designed as a spring-board to enable Community Heroes to take their initiatives to the next level and expand their vision for making a real and lasting difference,” offered Gareth Geddes, Guinness Brand Manager for the Caribbean and Central America.

To be considered for the Arthur Guinness Fund, community heroes and the social projects they manage should:

  • Have a positive impact on the community or nation
  • Positively impact persons 18 years and older
  • Reach a wide number of individuals
  • Have elements of originality and innovation
  • Have a clear definition of success
  • Have fund-raising abilities
  • Have the potential to make a meaningful change in the long run

Interested persons should send an email detailing how their project fit the above criteria to regina.gillings@diageo.com. Submissions will only be accepted between August 5-16.

The awardees from across the Caribbean will be announced at the Arthur’s Day celebration on September 27 in Kingston, Jamaica.

This year’s Arthur’s Day celebration will see some of the best performers of the Caribbean’s most popular music genres – reggae, dancehall and soca –delivering an experience made of more for fans across the region. Proceeds from the gate receipts from this year’s concert will go towards the Arthur Guinness Fund.
