Eight teams will vie for top honours in the Banks Malta Supreme Under-13 cricket tournament organized by the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA).

The competing teams are Georgetown Cricket Club, Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO), Transport Sports Club, Malteenoes Sports Club, Demerara Cricket Club, Everest Cricket Club, Bel-Air Rubis and Diplomats of Lodge.

The tournament is sponsored by Banks DIH Limited under the Malta Supreme Brand.
Competitions Chairman of the GCA, Shaun Massiah said there has been an increase in the number of teams competing in the tournament this year.

He disclosed that several venues including YMCA and MYO grounds will be utilized with the final earmarked for Thirst Park.

Roger Harper, President of the GCA expressed gratitude to Banks DIH Limited for sponsoring the tournament at the official launch at Banks Sports Club at Thirst Park Wednesday.

The former Guyana and West Indies captain said the local beverage company has supported the tournament for the past four years which provides young players with the opportunity to develop their cricketing skills.

Clayton McKenzie, Malta Supreme Brand Manager said his Company was excited to be partnering with the GCA in this tournament.

“Cricket is a very important sport in Guyana cricket stars emerged over the years. Malta Supreme is an ideal beverage for sportsmen and sportswomen and we are pleased to be sponsoring the tournament for another year,” he added.

Also present at the ceremony were Mortimer Stewart Banks DIH Outdoor Events Manager, Troy Peters (Communications Manager) and Mark Harper, Chairman of the Senior Selection Panel.

The tournament which is normally played over the schools holidays in July-August was pushed back due to the inclement weather during that period.

GYO are the defending champions following their victory over Transport Sports Club last year at GYO ground.
