Banks DIH Limited will host a Community Outreach Fitness Walk and Mini Health Fair under the theme: “Wellness, Fitness and You” on Saturday at Demerara Park, East Bank Demerara Public Road starting at 07:00 hours.
Residents of the lower East Bank Demerara, Yarrowdam, Meadow Bank, Alexander Village and Ruimveldt are among the areas being targeted as well as employees of the Company.
The programme will get underway at 07:00 hours with a Fitness Walk from Demerara Park to Eccles, E.B.D traffic light junction before returning to Demerara Park.
There will also be blood pressure testing, dental checkup, screening for diabetes and a blood donation drive. In addition there will be counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS.
Ms. Jennifer Khan, Coca-Cola Brand Manager who is coordinating the event said that there will also be Zumba (Exercising and Dancing session), discussion on Cancer and Yoga and the free distribution of beverages and of lunch packs prepared by teachers and students of Carnegie School of Home Economics. The students of Carnegie will also mount a tie-dye exhibition.
Alsopart of the programmewill be a Jump Rope exhibition by students and teachers of the The Ministry of Education Allied Arts Unit.
Ms. Khan said Courts Furniture Store will be providing exercise and other equipment for the day’s activities.
“This Wellness and mini Health Fair is for the entire family as we seek to promote Health and Wellness in our Society,” she added.
Among the organizations listed to participate are the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central, Cancer Institute of Guyana, National Blood Bank, Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBCHA), Courts, Ministry of Education, Georgetown Public Hospital Mercy Hospital, the Zumba Group and Georgetown Brahma (Yoga).
The programme runs until 13:00 hours.
