At least forty players are listed to contest the Georgetown leg of the “Premium Cues Showdown” Pools tournament on Sunday at Buddy’s Pool Hall on Sheriff Street.
Following three weeks of warm up tournaments, competition is expected to intensify as Georgetown players now get a chance to showcase their talent with the aim of reaching the grand finals scheduled for July 28th at Stabroek Sports Bar, above Idiho Restaurant on Brickdam.
The countrywide tournament is sponsored by Banks DIH Limited under the Premium Beer brand.
Premium Beer Brand Manager Jeoff Clement said that because of the number of entries, the competition will start at 11:00 hours sharp and he is encouraging players to be at the venue on time.
The winner will take home a top prize of $60,000 and a trophy with the runner-up securing $40,000 while the third place finisher will collect $20,000.
Similar tournaments have been held on the East Coast of Demerara, Essequibo, Berbice, West Demerara, East Bank Demerara and the winners of the respective zones will compete in the grand finals.
The Georgetown players will have a final warm up tournament on Saturday (tomorrow) at Butcher’s Bar, Millington Street, Newtown starting at 16:00 hours.
Warm up tournaments were held earlier this month at Buttsy’s Pool Bar at Shell Road, Kitty, Son’s Pool Bar at Sandy Babb Street, BL Beer Garden at Public Road La Penitence and Seepaul’s Sports Bar at Alexander Street, Kitty.
