Banks DIH Limited commissioned its US$1million Waste Water Treatment Facility at Caribanks Complex at Public Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown on June 15, 2011.

His Excellency Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, President of Guyana unveiled the commemorative plaque to officially open the plant in the presence of Chairman and Managing Director of Banks DIH Limited Mr. Clifford B. Reis and Venecar Franchise General Manager of Coca Cola Mr. Jeremy Faa.

The plant was funded jointly by Banks DIH Limited and the Coca Cola Company.

Mr. Reis in his address said the intention behind the waste water facility was to protect the environment and to foster greater awareness of the need for sustainability.

He said the partnership between Banks DIH Limited and Coca Cola will ensure that the importance of nurturing the environment becomes everybody’s business.

Mr. Reis highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in the wake of the effects of man-made climate change.

“Within the context of developing Guyana, the treatment plant will be capable of treating the effluent emanating from the plant, which will ensure that the environment is protested even further into the future,” Mr. Reis emphasized.

Mr. Faa said Coca Cola was proud of the step that Guyana has taken in the installation of the facility.

“It shows that we are on the same page ..this water treatment plant is a great example of the efforts made today by the dedicated men and women of our bottling partner, who are responsible for implementing so many of our shared plans,” he added.

Mr. Faa noted that water is key to sustainability, and is an important ingredient in all beverages sold by the company. “The goal of the company is to establish a truly water-sustainable business on the global scale that underlines Coca Cola’s commitment to water conservation.”

President Jagdeo lauded Banks DIH Limited and Coca Cola for their corporate environmental responsibility.

The Head of State noted that water management would be critical in this century. “We have seen the impact of unsustainable carbon emission levels on our world. If those levels continue, we are heading for catastrophe,” President Jagdeo said.
